Women’s Tennis Takes Down LIU, 6-1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team defeated the Sharks of LIU, 6-1, in a none-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team defeated the Sharks of LIU, 6-1, in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. 
 
"We comprehensively competed hard in singles after securing the doubles point and that helped greatly in our success today," said Head Coach Mat Iandolo.

The Spartans secured a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point with all three doubles matches. Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson defeated Ksenia Reznitskaya and Beatriz Verdial on court three, 6-2. Sydney Bly and Raegan Mitchell granted UNCG with the doubles point after defeating Jenna Svatos and Clara Tardivel, 6-1, on court two. Olivia Gallagher and Alexandra Dodashev notched the final doubles contest of the day with a win over Lucia Garrigues and Mia Tsoukalas, 6-4, on court one.
 
UNCG continued its momentum into singles play by collecting the first four singles matches for the 6-1 win. Mitchell gave UNCG a 2-0 lead after taking down Tardivel, 6-2, 6-2, on court four. Thomson kept the scoring going with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tsoukalas on court three. Dodashev clinched the match for the Spartans in a 6-3, 6-3, win over Reznitskaya on court two. Gallagher gave UNCG the fifth point of the day in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Garrigues on court one. The Sharks were able to get on the board when Paula Guillen Cerver secured a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 win over Bly on court five. Birkevold earned the final point of the day when she defeated Verdial, 6-2, 7-5, on court six to grant UNCG the 6-1 victory.
