Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-1 loss (25-20, 16-25, 16-25, 15-25) to the Mocs of Chattanooga on Saturday at Maclellan Gym.

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-1 loss (25-20, 16-25, 16-25, 15-25) to the Mocs of Chattanooga on Saturday at Maclellan Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mocs started off with the momentum in Saturday's matchup with a 4-0 run. However, after a quick timeout, UNCG responded with a 6-1 run to take the 6-5 lead. The first set tied on a couple more occasions, but UNCG never allowed Chattanooga to take the lead again in the game. A final kill from Allie Sweet secured the Spartans set one, 25-20.
 
UNCG started off set two by notching a 4-1 run over the Mocs, but Chattanooga found its stride by recording a 5-1 run to take the 6-5 lead. Chattanooga held the advantage for the remainder of set two to claim it, 25-16.
 
Emily Hanlon with a kill put UNCG on the board first in set three. With UNCG on top 3-2, Chattanooga notched an 8-1 run for the 10-4 lead. The Mocs were able to maintain their lead for the remainder of set three to earn it, 25-16.
 
The fourth and final set was more of a back-and-forth battle in the early goings. However, with UNCG on top, 8-6, Chattanooga dropped a 5-0 run to take the 11-8 lead and maintain advantage for the rest of the game. The Mocs closed out the match with a 9-1 run to walk away with set four, 25-15 for the 3-1 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Izora Gragg recorded her sixth double-double of the season and her career after leading the Spartans with 39 assists and 13 digs.
  • Sweet led the squad with 17 kills.
  • Hanlon followed closely behind with 14 kills.
  • Gragg also paced the team with two service aces.
  • Madeline Timmerman and Hanlon led UNCG in the middle with 5.0 total blocks apiece.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will return home to host Mercer on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and Samford on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m.
 
Friday's match against the Bears will be the team's annual Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness. In addition, the first 50 fans will receive a free slice of pizza!
 
For Saturday's match, the first 60 fans in attendance will receive a FREE Krispy Kreme doughnut! Also, the team will be doing postgame autographs at the conclusion of the match.
