Spartans Spring into New Season with Winning Streaks

From historic winning streaks to new records, the UNCG Spartans have given everyone a reason to cheer on the court, track, and diamond. The post Spartans Spring into New Season with Winning Streaks appeared first on UNC Greensboro.

2025 has already shaped up to be an exciting year for Spartans, thanks to the incredible performances of student-athletes and their coaches. Teams opened the new semester breaking records, building new winning streaks, and setting themselves up for success leading into the tournaments.

Here’s where the Spartans stand so far this spring:

Basketball

Women’s basketball gives Spartans a reason to pack into the Fleming Gymnasium, where they’ve gone undefeated this season. Their 68-60 victory over the Wofford Terriers on Friday, February 14 brings that streak to 13-0. It’s the best home start of any regular season in UNCG women’s basketball program history as they sit at first place in the Southern Conference (SoCon).

Will they keep it up when they host Western Carolina on Saturday, February 22? Help cheer them on by getting tickets here. Additionally, UNCG will recognize alumna Angie Polk-Jones ’89 as the first Spartan student-athlete to have a jersey retired.

Men’s basketball also had a stellar weekend. On the road on Saturday, February 15, they triumphed over Furman 58-50. This extends their own winning streak to four in important conference play.

They will compete against ETSU on February 19. Tickets are available here. Next week, they face off with Chattanooga to break the tie for first place in the SoCon at First Horizon Coliseum. Don’t miss this hot game at the First Horizon Coliseum on Thursday, February 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets available here

Track

Men’s track shattered three school records at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Saturday:

• 800-meter run: 1:52.25 (Barnard)
• 4×400-meter relay: 3:23.89 (Hamilton, Barnard, Mvovi, Schneider)
• 4000-meter Distance Medley Relay 9:59.64 (Hamilton, Barnard, Mvovi, Schneider)

Six men and three women also clocked new personal-best times.

They will be in the JDL Last Chance Invitational on Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where they will attempt to lower their times to qualify for conference and national meets.

Softball

The Spartans have been hitting it out of the park. Softball schooled Saint Francis, 7-2, and Toledo, 16-14, on Sunday, February 16, at the UNCG Softball Stadium, extending its win streak to seven. It was also a day to celebrate Head Coach Janelle Breneman, who continues to be the winningest softball coach in UNCG’s history with 401 wins.

Four Spartans had multi-hit games against Saint Francis. That number climbed to five against Toledo. Softball is scheduled to host four teams in its UNCG Invitational from Friday-Sunday at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Click here to check out the softball schedule.

Baseball

Baseball won two of this weekend’s three-game slate against the Creighton Bluejays, falling in the series finale on Sunday. That defeat followed their dominance in the Opening Day doubleheader on Friday

They will take on Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. Tickets can be found here.

Tennis

Men’s tennis walked away with a 4-3 victory over the Longwood Lancers on Saturday.
