he Old Gold and Black Pageant is a signature event hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at various colleges and universities. It's designed to highlight the fraternity's core values of scholarship, leadership, service, and brotherhood, while also celebrating the fraternity’s rich history and traditions. Key Aspects of the Event: Pageant Contestants: Typically, the event features undergraduate students from the university or college who compete in different categories. Contestants may represent different campus organizations or showcase their individual talents and skills. Categories: The competition might include formal wear, where participants are judged on their presentation, elegance, and poise. There may also be categories for talent performances, where contestants perform a skill or talent. Interview segments often help judges assess participants' leadership qualities, communication skills, and alignment with the fraternity's ideals. Themes & Presentation: The pageant often emphasizes Alpha Phi Alpha’s iconic old gold and black colors, which represent the fraternity’s rich history and legacy. The event can feature special themes that align with Alpha Phi Alpha's principles, such as service to the community, academic achievement, or cultural pride. Cultural Significance: It’s a celebration of African American culture, history, and tradition. The pageant is usually part of a larger weekend of events, often tied to homecoming or other significant cultural observances on campus. Fundraising and Philanthropy: Many times, the event serves as a fundraiser for the chapter’s community service initiatives, scholarships, or educational programs. Proceeds from the pageant can go towards supporting local or national causes that are aligned with Alpha Phi Alpha’s philanthropic efforts. Community Impact: The event is not only an opportunity for the contestants to shine but also for the fraternity to showcase its commitment to civic engagement, service, and the pursuit of excellence.
