Mental Health First Aid Training: Parent & Family Edition!

Description

Students’ mental health and well-being are critical to their success in college, and parents and families play an instrumental role in supporting their student’s mental health and well-being. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identifyunderstand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.


First Aiders will participate in a one 8-hour in-person, instructor led-session.


DATE: Friday, October 4 from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Lunch is provided! 

LOCATION: Gove Student Health Center, 107 Gray Drive, room 015



The MHFA Course covers:


-Common signs and symptoms of mental illness.


-Common signs and symptoms of substance use.


-How to interact with a person in crisis.


-How to connect the person with help.


-Plus, expanded content on trauma, addiction, and self-care.



Family members, Faculty, Staff, and Students are encouraged to become Mental Health First Aiders.

You must attend the entire session in order to be MHFA Certified.
